Jasmine Cho

Secretary General

Dear Advisors, Parents, and Prospective Delegates,

With the utmost excitement, I invite you to the Eleventh Annual Conference of Model United Nations of International School Consortium (MUNiSC) that will be held from February 28th to March 2nd, 2019. It is my privilege and honor to serve you as the Secretary General of MUNiSC 2019.

For the conference in 2019, the Leadership Team has selected relevant and stimulating issues in compliance with the theme of “Making Inroads into Poverty.” Poverty is a problem that is long-established yet has never been resolved completely. During the conference, the delegates will be able to make great strides in “making inroads into poverty” as students—through debates on fundamental defects of our society as well as unexpected changes in rapidly evolving era. We believe that the conference will be an eye-opening reality-checks for the youthful generations, giving every participant a chance to better understand the complexity of the systematic problem in our world.

Although our debates in MUN conferences will remain as a simulation, the nights I spent to write the resolutions and the momentary nervousness and stress on the podium were not in vain; 4 years of my MUN career has expanded my perspective on issues beyond our borders and pushed me to be an active citizen in our world. In MUNiSC 2019, therefore, I’m eager to be part of the Secretariat team to prepare and coordinate the conference—to create a motivating environment that provides opportunity to experience the joy of crafting solutions to the greatest problems of our time that fundamentally cause poverty.

Having participated in the last four MUNiSC Conferences, I am certain that MUNiSC 2019 will once again have great and viable solutions towards the topics discussed.

On behalf of our team, once again, welcome to MUNiSC 2019!

James Lee

Deputy Secretary General

Greetings, delegates!

Welcome to MUNiSC 2019! My name is James Lee, currently attending International School of Qingdao. It is my honor to serve you as one of the Deputy Secretary Generals for three days of conference.

As you may know, this year’s conference theme is “Making Inroads into Poverty.” Poverty has been one of the everlasting issues that have suffered humankind. It has been less than a century that global communities start cooperating to eradicate poverty around the world. Poverty is no longer a distant subject, but stays close to our surroundings.

Some of you who had already attended to another MUN conferences might merely focus on your committee issues. For both MUN beginners and experts, rather than concentrating your attention to one topic and struggling to get best award, I want you guys to step back for a moment and try to relate your issue with the conference theme. Are there any connections? How so and what kinds of resolution you can make to solve this problem? While enjoying yourself with other people, please take some portion of time and take this as consideration.

I wish MUNiSC 2019 to be memorized as one of the most unforgettable conferences in both delegates and chairs’ minds. I also look for interesting, but not mundane debate among participants at MUNiSC 2019.

Good luck!

Anna Li

Deputy Secretary General

Greetings fellow chairs, delegates, advisors, and admins!

Welcome to MUNISC 2019. My name is Anna Li, currently a junior at the International School of Qingdao. It is a privilege and my greatest honor to be serving you as the Deputy Secretary General for MUNISC 2019.

This will be my 4th year in MUN and my 4th MUNiSC conference. MUNiSC has always been my favorite conference, a perfect balance of casualness and professionalism. The debates, speeches, and people in general I was able to meet truly inspired me to become who I am right now.

Now for a bit of advice. As a student who has gone through the beginning phase of MUN, I understand how delegates may feel overwhelmed for their first few conferences, even when being mentally prepared to anticipate the unknown. Nevertheless, give speeches, make amendments, participate in the debate fully. No one will judge your performance, looking for that one stumble in your speech or remember that one question you could not answer. Delegates may seem like they are ready to tear apart your every word, but I assure you that they are impartial and do so with the good intention of improving the quality of the resolution and debate. Contemplate what happens, and then, move on. Allow yourself to enjoy the conference, as MUNiSC is only for a short three days!

I look forward to seeing fruitful debates, laughter, and motivated participants at MUNISC 2019!

Ji Hyun Lee

Head of Administrative Staff

Honorable chairs, delegates, advisors, and guests,

My name is Ji Hyun Lee, and it is my utmost honor to be serving you all as the Head of Administrative Staff at MUNiSC 2019.

As frequently told in student officer introductions for numerous MUN conferences, it is difficult to find delegates who have actually enjoyed their first conference in contrast to those who were traumatized by it. Despite the fears and failures that blind every delegate in the beginning, what truly invigorates them to carry on their MUN career for the next following years are the wide range of takeaways each conference has to give. Every conference has something different for each delegate to take back home on the last day, which is yielded by the purpose and aspirations that the delegate had in mind throughout the experience. I would suggest all delegates to find their purpose, engrave it in their mind, and stick to it to make the most out of the three fleeting conference days.

MUNiSC and its takeaways will certainly leave a mark on your pathway, as they have done so for mine when I first attended it. To ensure that all participants get a full experience of this extraordinary conference, the administrative staff will always strive to serve everyone at our best that all delegates may solely devote themselves to the debates.

On behalf of the administrative staff, I am more than delighted to serve you, and I wish you the best of luck!
